Daily Visions art challenge 2023
The ‘Daily Visions Art Challenge’ is an initiative started by visionary artist Amanda Sage on the 1st day of 2023. The idea, if you should take it on, is to create a piece of art each day of the year. If your medium of creativity is something other than visual art then of course you can still take part.
Each artist that is participating is coming at this challenge in their own way. There aren’t any set rules, we individually set our own standard for ourselves. For me, in the beginning it was about sitting down to my art table every day and putting brush or pen to paper and giving myself no more than 30 minutes to do whatever it is that came to me.
I bought a small watercolour sketch pad and a watercolour palette. I splashed and sploshed and doodled and played without having any expectations of outcome and it felt so freeing. Working this way was great when I needed to travel, packing my art supplies was easy and I was able to continue my practice while visiting family or friends., winning!
After a couple of months I had finished 2 sketchpads and have lots of random drawings and images which are fun to look back on. Intuitively allowing my paintbrush to flow and seeing where it would take me and some weird, wacky and wonderful stuff has emerged. There may not be a consistent theme but I feel you can still tell it’s me from each one of them.
On the 28th of February, day 59, I finished my sketchbooks and from then I’ve consistenly been painting on A5 watercolour paper. I’ve been using Frog tape to create a lovely border on each piece and I have to say peeling the tape off when the painting is done is one of THE most statisfying things ever…..I’m kind of addicted. Today is day 92 and it’s been a beautiful journey so far.
I will be uploading some of my favourites to my shop going forward. They are all one-of-a-kind (no prints) and nicely priced for an original piece.
Update: 17th of November
I have to be honest and say that I dropped the ball on the challenge back in July or August sometime and have not really been consistent since but I still come back to it at times. When I look back at all the art I have created this year it blows my mind and the styles that have emerged are fun and colourful. Allowing myself to be free in the practice meant new things emerged and it feels great.
If you don’t progress you become stagnant…..and that is not a place I want to be. Always evolving and growing.
